I loved this story
Monica Brinkman is a story teller! I loved this story. I became totally caught up in the tale she wove and the characters she created. I kept telling myself, "just one more chapter," before I'd put it down. I couldn't stop reading once I got to the last 40 or 50 pages. This is a tale of love and hope, but it is even simpler than that. It is a story about people; everyday people called upon to do extraordinary things. The depth of the characters really put this book over the top for me. I loved them.
What I liked most: The fact that the characters spoke to me. I loved the story. As I stated earlier, Monica Brinkman is a story teller, and this story is one you should read. I'm adding The Turn of the Karmic Wheel to my "to read" pile, that's for sure.

An Intriguing Read
I had no idea what the Wheel's Final Turn was about when I started reading it but knowing how much the author cares about humanity, I sensed it would have something to do with various aspects of mankind. I was not disappointed. The characters are an intriguing mixture of reality...good and evil. You immediately get the sense something supernatural is affecting them and they are helpless against the dark forces. With gripping suspense the story unfolds and a battle between good and evil ensues. I would recommend this well written novel to anyone who loves a unique and chilling nail biter story.

Because We Must Chose
December 11, 1845, and the United States has declared war on Mexico. In Boston, James R. Lowell published a poem; the first stanza of which went:
Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision, offering each the bloom or blight,
And the choice goes by forever, ’twixt that darkness and that light.
It was a stirring call to the conscience of every citizen, one which was soon set to music and is still sung in churches throughout America. The message was clear: we, all of us, have to make choices about right and wrong, about good and evil.
It is a recurring question in theology, philosophy, and religion: Where does evil come from? How does evil exist in the world?
In her fine new book, The Wheel’s Final Turn, Monica Brinkman reminds us of that question, of that hymn, and of that basic moral responsibility.
Brinkman’s approach is Manichean. In her world-view, evil coexists with good and is in constant and deliberate war against kindness, compassion, and concern. Darkness creeps around the edges of life, takes over souls, and inflicts pain and punishment on those who are decent. Against that darkness stands a small band, not a team of superheroes but a small cohort of intuitives and sensitives, people who can sense the coming of evil and whose goal it is to offer protection and salvation for its victims.
The power of Monica Brinkman’s speculative fiction comes in part from her use of believable characters. She brings the battle to live using such characters as a politician who also plays guitar, a spokesperson for beauty products, a dogcatcher, a psychiatrist, a retired man who likes to whittle, little girls who like ice cream and play. She takes these ordinary characters and transubstantiates them into a powerful reminder that we must all be ever aware of “that darkness and that light.”

Monica Brinkman is A Master Storyteller
And from her treatment of the paranormal, it is clear that this is her genre. She describes a vivid picture about the danger the world is in, yet there is hope that all is not yet lost. I couldn't put the book down until the end. This is the first book of Monica's that I read and I am looking forward to the first part in this duology, The Turn of the Karmic Wheel. Well done.

Big Al's Books & Pals
Author Monica Brinkman has created a spectacularly empowering and uplifting novel that delves into social commentary, while establishing new ground in a timeless story of good vs. evil that has bold lessons for humanity. Here karma is viewed as if it's music with each character hearing a song until one by one they all know its melodies. In time these melodies will speak of choices for the soul as each character has a chance at the karmic wheel and their fates are spun together. With each turn of the karmic wheel each of the characters are tested in unusual ways that hark of plagues and vices and which hold timeless messages for humanity.
While at first the characters journeys feel like separate islands that is the brilliance within the pages of Brinkman's novel for no one here is an island, no matter how much they might feel that way, not in this sea of humanity. The perceived bad characters in the novel suffer from greed, lust and contempt for others and don't seem quite evil and that is part of the poignant message in Brinkman's tale, that the darkness can creep into anyone and that anyone can lose touch with the goodness in themselves. Within this framework, the good characters too aren't entirely saintly and that is another of Brinkman's gems. The goodness of individual's souls grows all the more here when they're connected with other caring, well meaning folks.

I loved all the stories in this collection. They are all well-written and held my attention throughout. This book would be a perfect gift for cat lovers. The stories give insight to the mind of a cat and I marveled at the intuition of the authors. This is one book I will return to again and again. The stories are good enough to be read aloud on NPR. I can't praise this collection enough.
Punky by Monica Brinkman was a touching short story that any cat-lover will be able to identify with

This book was written in the hope of showing any individual who contemplates having an affair what they may expect to experience. It is also written for those who may be able to identify with my words and to sincerely help them make the right decision for their own circumstances.
It is my wish that some will read these words coming from the very soul and think twice before taking on a lover, and to help those dealing with the aftermath of infidelity. My words are simple; the situation surely was not.
These are my emotions, my words, my inner feelings. When all was lost, I found solace in my writing; it healed, it inspired and it is truth!

Into the Tunnel of Darkness - Review 2009
Book was recommended to me by a friend. I thought, sure, like I want to read poetry. After reading this book, it touched my heart. It was written in real time so you can almost feel what it was like to experience the authors situation.
Think if you are in any sort of relationship you should buy this book; it might save it.
Great gift also. I highly recommend it

Heartwrenching at times...incredibly upliftintg at others..this is a book recommended for anyone who has ever been in love...and suffered heartbreak....and triumph of spirit.... A must-read for anyone working their way through life..and the breakdown of how we thought it would all turn out. I highly recommend this insightful book for anyone of any age.
